2023 Ford Escape
The Ford Escape is the ideal small SUV for drivers who want a smooth and comfortable commuter or daily driver for the family. It has a spacious cabin, comes with lots of features, and offers a choice of powertrains. For the 2023 model year, the Escape has a new look for the front end, and there are several new wheel designs available. The lineup also includes some new trim levels, and all models now come with Ford's Sync 4 infotainment system.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The Base Ford Escape comes with 17-inch steel wheels, while the Active has 17-inch alloy wheels, a power liftgate, and chrome exterior trim elements. The ST-Line comes with 18-inch wheels, underbody skid plates, and roof rails, and the ST-Line Select has LED fog lights and heated side exterior mirrors. Stepping up to the ST-Line Elite gets you 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, and upgraded front accent lighting, while another bump to the Platinum removes the ST-Line's skid plates and adds upgrades in the cabin. The Escape PHEV has 18-inch wheels and the same features as the Active.
Engine (Power)
Power for the Base, Active, and ST-Line Escapes comes from a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gas engine with 180 horsepower. The ST-Line Select and up get a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 250 horsepower. The ST-Line and higher trims offer the option for a 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain with 192 horsepower, and the PHEV uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and electric motors that combine to generate 210 horsepower.
Performance
The 2.0-liter turbo engine is the most powerful engine and will propel the Escape to 60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. If you want some all-electric range, the PHEV will go up to 37 miles before the gas engine needs to kick in. All Escape models except the PHEV come with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, while the plug-in hybrid comes only with front-wheel drive. Depending on the engine, the Escape can tow up to 2,000 pounds.
Interior
Inside, there's room for up to five people in the Escape. Cloth upholstery comes standard with the lower trim levels, and in the Active, you'll get dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The ST-Line has a flat-bottomed steering wheel, the ST-Line Select adds heated front seats and a heated steering wheel, and the ST-Line Elite has driver's seat memory settings and a power-adjustable driver's seat.
You'll get a 13.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system in the ST-Line Elite, and these higher trims come with wireless charging and integrated navigation.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Ford Escape has several advanced driving aids. These include forward collision warning, automatic braking, pedestrian detection, and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert. Lane-keep assist also comes standard, along with automatic high-beam headlights. The ST-Line Elite adds rear automatic braking, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control. This model also comes with evasive steering assist. An automated parking system that will steer the Escape into a parking spot and a head-up display are available as options depending on the trim level.
